For
vessels not equipped with an uninterruptible power
supply (UPS), professional installers often recommend
including a dedicated inverter with onboard computer
installations.
This
is especially important if you intend to run an external
CRT monitor (where the quality of electrical power
is particularly critical), or if there are microwaves
and other high in-rush current devices aboard.
Our
top pick for laptop installations is the 300- watt,
quasi sine wave inverter from Analytic Systems. The
electrical noise generated by lesser units plagues
many boaters due to interference with radios, autopilots,
or other devices sharing the same batteries. There's
also a 300-watt pure sine wave model available. For
systems requiring more power we also carry 600 and
1,000-watt pure sine wave models. The extremely heavy
input filtering and reliable, marine-grade design
sets all of Analytic's units apart from other inverters
we've seen. Every Q'Sine and PureSine model is available
in versions designed to operate with 12-, 24-, or
32-volt battery systems.
